Mission/ FAQ’s for the Restore the Constitution Open Carry rally movement:
Who are the RTC members?
We are peaceable Americans, deeply concerned over both the direction politicians are taking this country and, more importantly, the abandonment of the Constitutional limits on government power placed by the Founding Generation in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
What are some examples of your concerns?
Take a look at your copy of the Constitution and find where the Federal government is given the power to require Americans to purchase health insurance. While you’re at it, find where the Constitution authorizes Federal takeovers in the automobile and mortgage finance industries. Look hard to find authorization in the Constitution for the Federal government to have saddled future generations with more than $13 trillion in debt, plus interest, with the prospect of trillions more in debt each year.
Do you find any authorization in your copy of the Constitution for warrantless monitoring of citizens’ communications and movement by the Federal government? For that matter, do you see any Constitutional authorization at all for a Federal Department of Homeland Security, a Federal Department of Education, a Federal Department of Health and Human Services, a privately-owned “Federal Reserve” Bank, a Federal Bureau of Investigation, a Federal Drug Enforcement Agency, or a Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives?
So what do you intend to do about these issues?
We intend to do all that we can about these issues, starting with the exercise of the first two rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights, speech and assembly and the right to bear arms. It’s the very least we can do as Americans. Our founders put the first and second amendments in there for a reason, and the least we can do is use them to the fullest as government at the Federal, state, and local levels tramples the rest of the Constitution. For now, more people attending armed assemblies is a good start. We’ll see how many of us have to turn out to armed rallies like this before the politicians in both parties start to take the Constitution seriously.
Why are you carrying your guns in public?
Part of how America got to this sad point in its history is because the bosses of this country – the American people – fell asleep at their job of keeping politicians in check. For more than one hundred years, we Americans have let politicians escape their Constitutional cage and enact laws saying where, when, and how often we as citizens can exercise our fundamental human rights such as political speech, public assembly, and bearing weapons as armed, free men and women. The RTC members are holding peaceful, legal, and safe public demonstrations across the country to reverse that trend. And the funny thing is — politicians and media pay a LOT more attention to your message when you are carrying a rifle slung over your shoulder.
Are you trying to start a fight?
Actually, the politicians who swore to protect and defend the Constitution, take taxpayer money as their salaries, and then renege on that promise are the ones who have started the fight. And it is a fight — a fight over who will control the American government — that can have only one winner. The American people will have to decide whether they will be slaves to their masters in Washington and Harrisburg, or whether those politicians will return to their intended jobs as public servants, rather than looters of the public purse.
But the American people want programs such as health care reform and homeland security agencies – what about their democratic rights?
The United States of America is a constitutional representative republic, not a democracy. One of the key differences between those two types of government is that in a constitutional republic, many issues are intentionally beyond the reach of democratic voting processes. Would you want to live in a country where your speech, your religion, your privacy, or your ability to protect your family was subject to a majority vote?
Our message is simple – the American rulebook is the Constitution, as written. Government officials must live by those rules, including using the Article V amendment process to change the rules. Absolutely nothing less is acceptable.
Mission/ FAQ’s for the 4-19-2010 RTC rally:
The mission of the “Restore the Constitution” rally is that it be held at a firearms carry-legal location as close to DC as possible and that it attracts as many participants as possible in order to underscore the seriousness and urgency of a simple message: Restore the Constitution!
What: “Restore the Constitution” rally/ Muster Outside D.C., held at a firearms carry location as close to DC as possible
When: 9AM-5PM, April 19th, 2010 (monday), to commemorate the 235th anniversary of the first battle of the American Revolution
Where: Ft. Hunt National Park, Northern VA
Why: Ask yourself: “Is the Constitution really being followed anymore?”
Details: Staging area will be Ft. Hunt National Park, located about 12 miles south of DC. Participants will gather there, and a speaking program will be provided. From there, starting at 11:30, the gathering will travel in convoys up to Gravelly Point Park so that participants, organizers, and speakers can “step up to the edge.” Gravelly Point Park is right on the Potomac, about a mile from the National Mall in DC.
See the planning/ networking site, for updates and planning discussions on possible locations.
- Muster Outside DC 4-19-2010
Scope:
4-19-10 rally at Gravelly Point Park, Virginia 10:30AM to 5 pm, although park hours are from 8 AM to dark. Gravelly Point is, based on research so far, the closest carry-legal location to DC, although Ft. Hunt will need to be the initial staging area and rendesvous point. Participants can arrive at Ft. Hunt as early as 9AM to get started, and the main speaking program will begin at 10AM, as the convoys begin going back and forth between Ft. Hunt and Gravelly Point. See home blog page for latest updates.
Target Audience:
Unlike traditional protest rallies, the primary target audience of this rally will be those who already support the idea that the constitution needs restoring. If you’re reading this and you’re generally supportive so far, but probably won’t make the effort to attend, YOU are the primary target audience. Why target mainly those who already agree with you? To show that it can, in fact, be done and to improve our ability to hold a bigger, SECOND “Restore the Constitution” rally if any of us chose to do so.
Objective:
1. Unite as many as will come to the edge of Washington, D.C. to rally in support and defense of the Constitution of the United States of America and to stand, armed and united, with our brothers and sisters delivering the same basic message to our servant politicians in DC and in the state capitals.
2. Exercise our God given rights to assembly and freedom of speech (First Amendment) while simultaneously exercising the right to keep and bear arms (Second Amendments)
3. To show our elected servants in DC and the state capitals that we will not stand by idly while their corruption, dishonesty, and outright violations of our country’s founding principles destroy the American Republic
4. Receive media exposure through national press, special interest press organizations, and independent media sources.
5. To continue the networking between average Americans concerned about the future that has been happening over the past twenty years, as governmental power grew and individual freedoms shrank.
For more on the target audience and objectives, see here:
FAQ’s
1) What is this event?
This is a civil rights rally with the simple message: Restore the Constitution! We plan to show our support for constitutional government at all levels – Federal, state, and local – by exercising our civil rights as guaranteed by the First, Second, Fourth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments to the US Constitution.
2) Where?
The main event is taking place at (proposed) Gravelly Point Park, VA, which is part of the George Washington Parkway National Park. Staging for the main event will take place at Ft. Hunt National Park, about 10 miles south of Gravelly Point Park.
3) When?
Rally will be from 9 am to 5 pm although park is open till dark on April 19, 2010.
4) Who?
Citizens who demand that the Constitution be followed, as written.
5) Why?
Because on one level, the Constitution of the United States is being passively overlooked by many in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the US government. But on another level, the Constitution of the United States is being actively undermined by many in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the US government. Both are totally unacceptable.
6) How?
Parking at Gravelly Point Park is limited to about 100 or so cars, so the main rally is near the bridges leading to DC at the north end of the park. Other smaller gatherings can take place along major roads and intersections in NoVA, especially main roads leading to and from DC.
7) Hundreds of armed men and women just outside the nation’s capital – that sounds scary. What do you hope to achieve?
Scary:
Not nearly as scary as the murder rate inside Washington, D.C.! Isn’t Washington still the murder capital of the United States? Didn’t they change the name of the basketball team here from the Washington Bullets to the Washington Wizards-precisely because of the violence in this city?
What we’re doing is not nearly as scary as how citizens inside Washington, D.C. are denied their God-given Constitutional right to keep and bear arms while armed and lawless thugs roam free.
Rights are like muscles and without exercise they will atrophy. This rally is a completely legal exercise of our Bill of Rights– surely you aren’t opposed to a civil rights demonstration?
The media has, for the most part, played down or outright ignored demonstrations of larger size for the past year or so. Instead, they seem to focus on protestors who show up armed, so we are, in a sense, giving the media what they want so we can get our message across. And that is simply that continued constitutional violations are not acceptable. Perhaps members of the Supreme Court, the executive branch, or influential members of congress will see our demonstration on TV and get the message that the American people are sick and tired of the Constitution not being followed. By exercising our First and Second Amendment rights simultaneously – which is possible only in America, by the way – we intend to remind all of the freedoms that we stand on the brink of losing.
8 ) Isn’t that many armed people gathered in one place going to be dangerous?
Our plan is to be following local law by having their rifles unloaded and handling them safely. In addition, before the rally, our group will meet with local authorities, shared our peaceful plans, and make sure that folks know both what we are and what we are NOT going to be doing.
Hundreds of police officers muster up before every single patrol-all of them armed. I’ve never heard of that being a problem.
I doubt that you’ll hear of any carjackings, rapes, murders, theft, or vandalism in this park today.
9) This “demonstration” sounds an awful lot like a militia insurrection to overthrow the government – why shouldn’t all of the planners and participants be arrested and prosecuted as domestic terrorists?
Insurrection/overthrow:
Did Martin Luther King call for an insurrection and overthrow of the government when he organized a peaceful march that brought millions to the Washington Monument? A march was organized, people came in vast numbers, and in simple and clear terms, he articulated a genuine grievance before his country. And his country listened. In that regard, how are we different?
The ones who are in the process of overthrowing our Constitutional system are all government employees in all three branches across the river. We’re peacefully calling on each of them to change course and return to the Constitution. Nothing more is required, and nothing less is sufficient.
Because if we planned to overthrow the government, we wouldn’t invite so many of them to join us here on the lawn, we wouldn’t announce our intention beforehand, and we wouldn’t meet up on the wrong side of the river.
Terror:
If we are all rounded up and hauled off to jail today and branded as terrorists for nothing more than the peaceful airing of our grievances, then it only proves our point that there are many people at all levels of our government who value their own power, popularity, prestige, and position more than the Constitution which grants their authority to them.
I don’t think you’re using the term “militia” correctly, so let’s clear this up. This gathering is a peaceful, completely legal exercise of our Constitutionally-protected fundamental human rights of free speech and assembly. We are not even engaging in the time-honored traditions of civil disobedience as did Henry David Thoreau during the Mexican War, and as did the heroes of civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s. If anything, our demonstration today is a “civil obedience” rally, in that we all are following the law of the land, and we insist that the President, the Congress, and the Federal judiciary do the same.
Your question demonstrates precisely the kind of propaganda and fear-mongering that I’d expect from those who are trampling of the Constitution. Do you not care about the First Amendment at all? Understand this; no single right enumerated by the Bill of Rights is an island that is independent of the others. Those first 10 amendments form a chain from which all of the freedoms for all Americans hang. How many links of the chain need to fail for all of it to fall? Just one.
Your question exactly proves the urgent need for this demonstration and others just like all over America. In the America of 2009, peaceable individuals gathering together for fellowship and the expression of their God-given fundamental human rights are deemed by many of their fellow citizens as “dangerous extremists” worthy of immediate arrest. If we are to change that sad state of affairs before a full-blown American police state is completed, men, women, boys, and girls across the nation must be willing to stand up and exercise their fundamental human rights openly, publicly, and happily – regardless of the consequences.
10) Come on now – you and I both know that this nonsense is happening because America elected a black President. Admit it – you’re just angry because there’s a black man in charge.
In Charge:
Actually, our Constitutional Republic was founded on a set of checks and balances that ensured that no one branch of government could accumulate all power unto themselves. But if you are making the assertion that Obama is, “in charge” as if everyone is subject to him, then by your own words, you’re saying that he’s guilty of violating the separation of powers and overstepping his bounds. In essence, you are making my point for me. Besides, I thought dissent was the highest form of patriotism.
Our civil rights demonstration today has nothing to do with the skin color or racial background of any of the statists in all three branches of government who are bringing totalitarian socialism to America. The facts are:
• Our demonstration is open to anybody – armed or unarmed, regardless of creed color, ethnicity, gender, or any other artificial distinction used by the powerful to divide Americans from one another.
• Anyone who is a supporter of the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the USC/BoR, as written and as ratified by the American people, is our friend.
• On the other hand, anyone who believes in ever-expanding Government and ever-contracting individual freedom is not our friend.
Personally, although I am saddened that the President AND Congress both have abandoned the Constitution’s limits on their power, I have the most grievances with the Supreme Court, who are supposed to be the last line of defense of the Constitution within the government’s framework.
Think about the Kelo eminent-domain case, McCain-Feingold, or the McConnell political speech case. The Supreme Court’s failure to fulfill this final check-and-balance role is a much bigger danger to freedom in America than a few protestors with rifles.
11) What is it – exactly – that you plan to achieve by this demonstration?
We hope to achieve several things, namely:
-Exercise our God given rights to assembly and freedom of speech (First Amendment) while simultaneously exercising the right to keep and bear arms (Second Amendments)
-Show our elected servants in DC and the state capitals that we will not stand by idly while their corruption, dishonesty, and outright violations of our country’s founding principles destroy the American Republic
-Receive media exposure through national press, special interest press organizations, and independent media sources.
-Continue the networking between average Americans concerned about the future that has been happening over the past twenty years, as governmental power grew and individual freedoms shrank.
12) But why have you brought your military-style pistols, rifles, and ammo to the very boundary of the nation’s capital? What could you possibly be trying to prove with such a provocative gesture?
Our country’s founding fathers knew that if American was to survive as a Republic, government at all levels would need to be constantly kept in a cage. The American people themselves were to be that cage, through their ability to vote and then, if all else failed, to defend themselves, move, and communicate in support of the political structure created by the USC and BoR. That’s why communication and movement are protected by the First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech and assembly. That’s also why the keeping and bearing of military-grade arms, just as we are doing in this civil rights demonstration, is absolutely guaranteed by the plain words of the Second Amendment.
You bring up a great point. Why are we here? If Washington, D.C. were actually following the Constitution, then we’d go assemble on the Mall, or on Capitol Hill, inside the city itself. But within the boundaries of Washington, D.C., the local and federal governments completely trample the Second Amendment rights of her citizens. If we tried to assemble across the river, we’d all be arrested, given mandatory, maximum prison sentences for any firearms related offenses, have all our guns taken away, and then have our Second Amendment rights stripped from us for the remainder of our lives. (Can someone with more legal moxie confirm or correct this? I may not have this exactly right, but we need to find out what “right” is and keep it handy for response to this question. The fact that we cannot legally assemble to exercise all of our rights within D.C. and must instead meet outside DC is part of the message.) Let me ask you a question; Should Jayson Blair have his First Amendment rights stripped for the balance of his life for being caught in plagiarism by the New York Times?
13) What’s all this talk about a “republic”? Everyone knows that America is a democracy.
In a true democracy, 51% of the people can vote to take the property and freedom of the other 49%. This describes what has been happening lately-and by similar percentages.
Article IV, section 4 of the Constitution states that “…The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government…”, so whoever told you that the US is a democracy was not telling you the truth. Under a constitutional republic such as the one established by the American people through the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, while democratic processes such as voting are used to select the president and representatives to the legislature, all three branches of the government have specific, limited powers which they must obey, or be in violation of the Constitution.
That is the situation we face today.
As to the politics of the situation, I’m not really here to try and court majority opinion and win 51% support for my cause. There are much more skilled professionals who are better able to do that, even if that were necessary. In order to protect against tyranny of the majority, i.e., mob-rule, you can’t just confine your strategy to winning over the majority. It seems this would be obvious.
When it comes to fundamental human rights, like free speech, freedom of assembly, and the right to keep and bear arms in self-defense against all threats to life, liberty, and freedom, the majority cannot strip away those civil rights. That’s why the Bill of Rights guarantees that those rights, and others, will always be immune from majority rule and the dangers of democracy.
Sounds like a plan! I just hope its not “too little too late.”
I will re-post to my mailing lists. Sounds like a plan! I hope its not “too little too late.” Know what I mean?
You do realize, do you not, that the chief attraction for gravelly point is that it is DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH the airplanes taking off / landing at Reagan Airport? Nobody goes there who isn’t there to picnic or fish under the AIRPLANES flying very low and slow overhead.
This just makes gun owners look like they’re insane. Since DC’s territorial waters extend to the Va. shore you can pick almost ANY spot along the potomac. How about Ft. Marcy Park — oh scratch that, Vince Foster and all…
Point taken; although I disagree with the “insane” aspect. The airplanes also make a lot of noise. At this point, if possible, I envision most of the activity being at the north end of the park, as far away from the runway as possible, b/c noise issues and b/c of possible issues w/ proximity to aircraft. The overriding criteria is that it simply be held “as close as possible.” If gravelly is not the closest, or if it is “not possible,” then there are other locations to consider. Please see the “Muster Outside DC site for in depth posts and discussions on possible locations.
The thought had occurred to me as well, normal_american, but I think TPTB need to see a legally armed congregation in their neck of the woods. D.C. should not be their refuge from their constituents ire.
For will be traveling thrue youat those attending – hope I can join yall. But make sure you follw the regulations for the transport of weapons thru every state you’ll be traveling thru. Don’t forget as there maybe some traitors out there in uniforms that may desire to increase their own collection of firearms — not that anyof them cluld possibly be dishonest and all. Just be careful out there.
Praise GOD for all of you.
Thanks, James.
Was thinking of a post I had seen on July 4th and discovered that I had saved a copy. I felt compelled to post it here because we seem to be discussing the possibility of facing the same hardships faced by our founding fathers. I pray these trials are never brought upon the citizens of our great nation.

Have you thought out the method for legally carrying weapons? I have a CCW in SC, but that doesn’t permit “Open” carry anywhere except my property. Assuming my CCW is accepted in VA, that is still out of sight, concealed.
I’m totally supportive of legal, armed demonstrations in this case, but what is “legal” in that location?
In Liberty,
Crusader1
From my understanding (and I’m not a lawyer), OPEN CARRY is legal in VA (except at state parks) regardless of your carry permit or lack of carry permit in other states. If you want to carry concealed legally or carry at all in a VA state park, THEN you need to start making sure you have the right permit.
For example, VA does not honor my GA carry license, so I can’t legally carry concealed in VA or carry at a VA state park. BUT, I can carry openly legally at most other places in VA.
This is all fine and good, but, anyone riding for any distance (like from Kansas or Texas) it would be best to NOT BE PACKING. The “local” (as in east coast) guys should handle the issue of the gun laws over there. The rest of us just show up, to stand shoulder to shoulder with them. There are too many Tin Horn Badge Wearers between here & there to take the risk of being assested or getting shot.
“arrested” OOps! too many “S” there
Daniel,
Brother, thank you for your fervent defense of ‘essential Liberty’. This FAQ has been very well articulated !
It shows that Liberty flows in your veins, as it does so many of the rising Patriots of the several States.
It also helps point out that WE are on the side of genuine Law, while many who are assumed to be the Lawful Government, may indeed be LAWLESS, (acting on their own authority, under presumption, while ignoring Higher Law) despite their ‘governmental’ status.
The neglected doctrine of Popular Sovereignty, that is, that all men are entrusted by their Creator to their own Self-Government, must be revived.
The destructive assumptions of Secularism – the Denial of God, and thus, the denial of objective, Inalienable Rights flowing from Him, must in the minds of Patriots, be challenged at their root.
IE: In a Darwinian environment, the operative assumption is that ‘Might makes Right’ or ‘survival of the fittest’.
Contrary wise according to the reasoning of the Founding Fathers, “the Laws of Nature & of Nature’s God” **, the very opposite assumption is that ‘Right makes Might’. That all men are accountable to Higher Law, Law that gives both Rights & Duties.
(In a nutshell, this is why evolutionary Darwinism is rationally incompatible with organic American Liberty….but is it’s own study.)
Howard Phillips (in his speech ‘A Constitutional Presidency’): put it like this:
“We (citizens) must hold our Representatives accountable to us, so that We may be accountable to Him.”
This, of course, is a clear recognition that with Rights come Duties, and if those Duties be neglected, or their source (God) becomes unclear, then the Rights degrade concurrently.
The restoration of those Rights will come at a price, you & others posted here have pointed out.
Our prayer before the LORD’s throne is that they may be restored peacefully, but our resolution is that they MUST be restored, at all costs.
We need carefully consider that cost. It will vary from individual to individual & family to family. Our pulpits must again be come ‘aflame with Righteousness’, as
Alexis DeToqueville commented 1800, as the source of our outstanding Liberty.
Our pastors must therefore, as urged on by us Patriot laymen, begin ‘connecting the dots’ and re-preaching the messages that animated the Colonial Pulpits, so much that King George called our Revolution the “Presbyterian Parsons Rebellion”, and referred to them as the ‘Black Robed Regiment’.
[How many of us Patriots are aware of this ? Not too many, by my estimate.

So, Daniel your words here put the responsibility square where it belongs, on the Sovereign (self-governed, under God) citizen !
Please, stop waiting for your Congressman, your Senator, your local officials, even your Pastors, to begin to do the right thing. It all starts with US !
If we understand these neglected, but timeless Principles, seek God’s blessing & do our Duty, a Restoration of Liberty, though costly, will be certain.
If we value pleasure & the ‘tranquility of servitude’ more than our Duty, the we do but confirm our status as mere Slaves.
Samuel Adams, Colonial Patriot, observed:
“It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, active minority, keen on setting brushfires in the minds of men.”
Fellow Patriots, gather courage that our struggle has been engaged & won by men of like mind & spirit, through the ages.
Patrick Henry called it the “Holy Cause of Liberty”.
Life can be like Heaven on earth when men bridle the sinful power of Leaders & themselves, and enjoy Liberty as God intended it to be so.
[Daniel, sorry this is so long. Your cogent defense of Libety blew into a brushfire, burning the dormant fuel in my mind.]
I will make a great effort to see you on April 19th !
Pro Deo et Patria,
David Alan
East Texas
Is it possible to coordinate this effort with another “rally” taking place on April 15th on the D.C. mall? Not at the same place, in D.C., but AT THE SAME TIME near D.C.? The TEA Party will be holding a “Massive” tax protest at that time, which is promissing several million will turn out for. We should “stand ready” to defend them, should the “government” decide to …… Catch my drift??? Its time to ACT!
James,
I am always ready to stand and defend the Constitution. Nothing less, nothing more. As far as defending Tea Party folks, unless we witness something absolutely reprehensible and illegal, we cannot aid them.
We are planning our move in the form of this legally armed demonstration, anything else is officially beyond the scope of this event.
“Patriot,”
I fully understand where you are coming from. My point is, should ANYTHING adverse occure, on April 15th, we will be set upon like Quantrial’s raiders four days later, on the 19th. ESPECIALLY being an “Armed” citezens’ excersise. Which is why I’ve suggested useing the same day of April 15th, just to “cover the bases.” Hopefully, nothing will happen, but if it does, shouldn’t we “stand ready?” I mean, look at this. If something DOES “happen” on the 15th, you can completely cancell the 19th, because it will turn into a government ambush for anyone that shows up.
So far as standing ready goes, I don’t think we need to get into what-ifs too much especially in discussing cancelling the 19th. As an American Citizen, I fully intend to excercise my 1st and 2nd Amendment rights as fully as I can on the 19th without running into legal problems or other confrontations. No one is cancelling that, no matter what happens on the 15th. I do stand ready, and I hope you will join us to discuss things further in Northen VA on the 19th.
This will NOT be cancelled.
Rest assured, I will do EVERYTHING I can to be there on the 19th of April. Just, PLEASE, listen here to a small voice of caution. “IF,” and I know that is the proverbial “if,” ANYTHING should occure BEFORE that date, and the current government becomes “reactionary” to citizens’ rallies, protests, or demonstrations, especially one of actual “armed citizens,” we do not want to be riding into this, like the charge of the light braigde, oblivious to the consequences.
“Better to live and fight another day” situtation. THAT is a possible reality that must be confrounted and dealt with.
My question is in regard to the info on this document.
vaguninfo.com/documents/VirginiaGunRights.pdf
On the first page it specifically says it is unlawful to carry on federal land (including parks). Is Gravely state or fed property?
Just wondered is all.
Definitely going to attend.
From my understanding, the new law for national parks (which was added to a credit card regulation bill passed in ’09) will go into effect in early 2010 allowing carry of firearms in national parks IF doing so is in accordance with the laws of the state the park is in. I’m not a lawyer, but that’s what it looks like to me, and that’s what everyone has told me so far who has looked at this critically (some of whom are lawyers).
Gravelly as well as the rest of the VA portion of the George Washington Memorial Parkway national Park seem to fit the mission so far b/c it is fed land and it is in the state of VA, which allows OPEN carry of firearms (subject to some restrictions) w/o a permit. Again, check out the laws yourself, as I’m not a lawyer. I’ve put some useful links and documents on the “Sister Site,” Muster Outside DC 4-19-2010, linked on this blog’s right side.
[…] See:Restore The Constitution […]
I would love to attend, but being disabled and living on a social security disability check I don’t have the money to go. I live in Georgia, and I am not sure that even if I could go I would be allowed to bear arms. What are the laws there on out of state citizens bearing arms? If it is not allowed then the only armed participants will be Virgina residents.
If you know of any way to help those on limited incomes attend, please let me know.
Found this on a local site is it related to this demonstration or something different. Either way the more the merrier, we must let those people know we will not conceded without a fight.
http://www.secondamendmentmarch.com/
The second amendment march has been planned for some time, but it looks like they came out with the 19th date publicly at around the same time we did. They would definitely be part of the target audience. If we get Gravelly Point, their demonstration at the washington Monument will be less than 2 miles away.
I posted a thread on their site’s forum about our “Restore the Constitution” rally and asked if there was any chance of us being recognized as a “satellite rally.” No response.
And that was over a week ago. Below is my post on their forum:
Myself and others are planning a “Restore the Constitution” rally to be held the same day, 4-19-2010, as the SAM. The location will be at a firearms carry-legal location (or multiple locations) as close to DC as possible. That way, participants will have the opportunity, if they so choose, to excercise their 1st and 2nd Amendment rights at the same time. While the message is a little different, I think it definitely qualifies as a pro-2A event, and I don’t want it to be viewed as “competing” with the main SAM in DC itself. To help disseminate info on the event, we’ve created a blog (which also links to a networking site) which is linked below:
Currently, I’ve applied for a permit to hold the event at Gravelly Point Nat’l Park in Virginia, across the Potomac from DC and less than 2 mi from the Mall itself, and am awaiting approval for that location. if the permit is denied, we’ll adjust and move forward with the general goal of “as close to DC as possible.”
Any chance of getting this event “recognized” by SAM organizers as being a “satellite rally” or other such supported event?
http://secondamendmentforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=437
At this very time, local people everywhere should be forming groups to discuss the Article’s of Freedom.
Then, if not to late, go to Virginia.
Be careful of those who may seek to stir trouble from within the crowd pretending to be one of you. Last thing you guys need is some hired loons being sent in to disrupt things.
I really like this but it also has bad idea written all over it. Just like Gen said what if? Also keep in mind that you might get some folks in there who’ve just been itching to get into a gun fight with the feds and will look at this as their opportunity since they’ll be surrounded by backup! Just keep in mind that in this situation, the one who fires the first shot will forever in history be named the villain!
Czibor,
Thanks for your concern, but if holding a legal, respectful rally of dissent is a bad idea, it shows how far we’ve fallen as a nation.
I won’t be bullied any longer, nor held hostage by political correctness. Enough is enough. If the event is in fact infiltrated by agent provocateurs, I can only hope and pray that we have the ability to identify them early enough to distance ourselves from them, as I have no desire to be some idiot’s meat shield.
I don’t plan on doing anything illegal, nor do I plan on being arrested, nor executed on the spot due to some misguided soul showing his ass to officials. I fully plan on exercising my constitutionally guaranteed rights to protest and to voice my dissension and disgust with the blatant disregard of our Constitution and it’s principles.
That’s really all I have to say on the matter for now.
First, I think you’re overestimating the general human desire to get into a gunfight. It’s not all it’s made out to be. An armed society is a polite society.
Sure, there’s always the off chance someone with a gun will shoot. But this argument against the event is really just another form of the same old anti-gun argument used against right-to-carry, “assault weapons,” “high-cap mags,” “gun show loopholes,” and the rest of it. Basically the argument is that most gun owners are peaceful people, but that gun control is neccessary because of the few bad apples and that gun control is a neccessary trade-off.
Second, it’s not really my idea of a good time to travel all the way to Virginia with guns and hang out in a crowd with others carrying rifles, not to mention the heavy police presence. BUT, I’m doing this because this is the LEAST we can do at this point in response to our government’s open contempt toward and violation of the founding documents which are supposed to protect our freedoms, our form of limited government, and our national identity. If the traditional inside-the-box forms of opposition and protest were enough, we wouldn’t see such symptoms of unlimited government such as eminent domain abuse, bailouts for the well-connected, coming health insurance mandates, general abuse of the Commerce Clause and the General Welfare Clause, a gun ban in DC in open violation of the second Amendment, and many, many other examples of a “long train of abuses.”
Third, look at the example of the armed rally in new Mexico earlier this month referenced in the blog’s home page. No incidents. Just angry citizens, angry for good reason, openly displaying liberty’s teeth and saying “enough is enough.”
When do we really say “enough is enough?” And can we really back the statement up 100% without firearms? What can we do, outvote the leeches, parasites, and kool-aid drinkers at every election? Vote out the Supreme Court when they twist the English language to justify virtually limitless expansion of government?
Nah I’m far from anti-gun. Matter of fact I’m one of the most active people that I know personally who does everything that I can against the anti-gun lobby. I own more than my share, I donate to the NRA legal fund, teach firearms safety, hunt etc.
I understand where you are coming from and I agree with that portion. But I would make sure you have some really good profilers walking around to watch for the folks that would bring bad things your way!
This worries me because just one screw up from one moron who bought his first gun and suddenly thinks he’s Rambo and wants to hang with the boys means that folks like us will get the poop end of the stick!
I see these guys all the time when teaching safety.
I’ll take your word that you’re not anti-gun, but just that I see parallels in the arguments. as for safety concerns, why don’t you come out to the rally and help me enforce gun safety rules on the 19th of April?
danieljalmond2004@gmail.com
Really, I would love to! In reality I just can’t afford to!
this is a great date for the above described event! it started april 19 1775! no reason not to have an armed restoration event! I like it, and im looking at attending now! i am a retired marine and have no issues with this sort of event! i am even considering coming and if i can make it i will volunteer to do weapons safety checks for the sponsor of such an event! semper fi and long live the constitution!
Virginia is an open carry state. There is no need to worry about being arrested
Sounds good, but that would only apply to the state in “general.” Many times state & federal “parks” have seperate rules that may apply. Be careful.
This is most definitely “on” for the 19th.
It has become imposible for the people to restrain the Government. They control us like puppets on a string. They know we can do nothing to stop them and the majority of the people agree. Even the ones in the know, (Tea Part patriots) know and still think it can be corrected by voting in good people. I disagree, our Constitution has been compromised and they, even the new members will continue changing it to fit their needs. We have to have a sit down meeting with a copy of the original Constitution draft in front of us and get back to the basics. A good example of the corruption: Take a good look at you pay check stub, Fed, Sol, and Med. Just today took over 30% of my check. That is robbery and I will never get that money back nor will I see what it was spent on. I do not mind paying my share if it is for a needed cause but there should be an end to the cause. In the begining taxes were just for specific needs and the people were ask to pay a tax until enough money was collectd then it was droped. Now it is a lifetime debt that will never be paid off. A debt just for the Elite to broaden their empire. They robb us of everything and dont even try to hide it because they know the people will accept it and do absolutley nothing about it. So as I said replacing them will not correct the problem, this is our land and our blood, sweat, and tears stain the dirt we walk on. We have to follow our Founding Fathers lead and take back our country. It is the right thing to do and needs to be done now. To think any different is compromising with the enemy or Government Tyrants. If you placed our Founding Fathers in our position today I know for a definite fact that a revolution would be born. I mean what is it going to take, how much more can we take? We have to stop living our daily lives in our comfort zones and take the risk needed. Our comfort zones is what has allowed us to be where we are today. We have been walking through life with our eyes closed. We will have to ask our children to forgive us for placing their future in jeapordy.
Greetings:
Why should the weapons be unloaded?
Unloaded weapons are dangerous.
Anyone who doesn’t already know how to handle a loaded firearm safely shouldn’t be carrying a firearm, loaded or unloaded.
Maybe those who have military style firearms could attach a bayonet?
Anyway, I’ve posted the link to this web site on my personal blog, “OUR ETERNAL STRUGGLE”, and I’ve advertised this web site at the FACEBOOK social networking web site.
I also wrote a letter to the editor of the “DESERET NEWS” newspaper in Salt Lake City, Utah.
As time passes, I’ll try and think of some more ways to share this information and hopefully, arouse further citizen participation.
Thank you.

Pistols can be loaded, but always kept holstered, and rifles should be unloaded. Why? The short answer is this: Same reason the military makes soldiers unload their rifles in the chow halls on bases in Iraq. The chance of a negligent discharge of a rifle would be very, very bad and seriously hamper the chances of this being done again. The goal here is to set an example and inspire bigger events like this in the future. In order to accomplish this, we need take this very cautiosly and carefully, erring on the side of caution.
Greetings:
I just now saw on the FACEBOOK social networking web site that a group of patriots called, “W.A.L.N.U.T.”, will be participating in the rally.
Also, a friend on FACEBOOK told me the new battle cry for American patriots is “419”, or “Four Nineteen”, which refers to the date, “19 April 1775”.
But, when I Googled “419” and “Four Nineteen”, there was no indication of any reference to American patriotism.
Still, I think “Four Nineteen” is an EXCELLENT battle cry, and ought to become more popular.
I intend to begin using “Four Nineteen” over and over and over, every chance I get, and I hope some of you will choose to do likewise.
Thank you.

I just now learned that GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA is also having their Second Amendment Rally at the very same time, on the grounds of the Washington Monument.
Why can’t these two activities and organizations combine their resources and work together?

I’m in communication with the planners of the Second Amendment March ( the one at the Washington Monument you’re referring to where GOa will have an official presence). We could all be at the same place, except for (unconstitutional) DC gun laws. However, we’ll be close enough to the Mall so that folks should be able to attend both events if they so choose. Our event will take place at Ft. Hunt and at Gravelly Point. The 2A march will take place less than 2 miles north of Gravelly Point. If you look at a map, you can see just how close the Mall is to Gravelly. People going to and from the DC event via the George Washington Memorial Pkwy should be able to see our presence at Gravelly Point.

I just now received this response to my inquiry at the SECOND AMENDMENT MARCH web site.

*******************************************
Hello Mr. Mallernee,
Thank you for your email.
We became aware of the event a couple of months ago, but by that time we had been planning our event for so long (since February of 2009) that it didn’t make sense to combine the two organizations (nor do I believe that either organization considered combining). We have a great deal on our plates that we are trying to handle right now, and adding a satellite rally into it this late in the game for us would introduce a great deal of difficulties. It would be ideal if the Restore the Constitution Rally could be held on the 18th, in which case we could encourage our attendees who will be in town to attend that rally the day before. However, this was not possible for the Restore the Constitution organizer. We respectfully understand that decision, as we know how many hurdles need to be overcome when planning events of a considerable size. Things are not always easily changed after permits are secured, speakers and travel are booked, etc.
We support Mr. Almond’s efforts and wish the event well. We at Second Amendment March don’t view the events as being mutally exclusive. People may choose whichever rally is appropriate for them – a smaller, but armed rally outside of D.C., or a larger, but unarmed rally inside of D.C. For that matter, they could feasibly attend portions of each, if they so desired.
Thank you again for taking the time to comment and share your concern.
Sincerely,
Terri Stocke

I just now learned that you are holding your rally at the same time as another similar function, the “RESTORE THE CONSTITUTION RALLY” is being held.
Their web site URL is:

Why aren’t these two separate organizations and activities being coordinated, and combining their resources?
This has already created confusion on other web sites.

I’m a retired US Army vetern. I totally agree with the reasoning of this march. I too would be concerned at the reasoning for “any of the guns to have a round in the chamber”. Loaded clips in pistols. I’d be careful at the reasoning for a round in the chamber. This is a peacefull rally. I pray no one gets hurt or fires a round. This would be an event that would be our undoing nationally.
Please be considerate and think about “Safety First”.

Thinkaboutit,
A couple of questions and a statement of fact in response:
Who do you know of that says they’ll bring an “automatic weapon” to this? Do you know the difference between an automatic and a semi-automatic weapon?
This event will NOT be held in a state park; it will be held in a national park,
It seems that a lot of opposition to this event stems not from what the event will actually be, but from misrepresentation of what it is. I’ll let folks post just about anything in the comments here, but I do ask that everyone please stick to the facts and not make counter-factual misrepresentations.

An interesting piece of commentary from someone just across the bay from me. We need to talk, “proclamation”. 🙂 You have been posting this same piece for months across various websites, and I would like to know it’s origins.
Response to A Patriot
First I saw of the proclamation was on the Keep and Bear Arms website back in 2007 in the comment section on

Last comment suggests the poster might have been the writer.
Thoughts in general.
Not sure if this site’s taking open suggestions for the restoration rally but I’d seriously think along the lines of getting as many as I could to arm up with muskets, ball and patch. Even repros and replicas will make the point clear enuff.
Anyone else carrying a rifle, safe-line rules apply. magazines out, actions open, no exceptions.
To whomever it may concern, do yourself and everyone else a favor. If not a musket, bring an M14/M1A, M1 Carbine, M1 Garand, Winchester, Remington, AR or similar and leave the foreign junk like Ak’s and Sks’s at home.
Bear in mind gentlemen ( and ladies ), you’re making American history with your rally, and no real American would ever want to look at some film clip of armed citizens standing up for restoring the U.S. Constitution with Russian, Chinese or some other foreign piece of junk slung on their shoulders.
Oh, and don’t forget your DTOM gear.

I only have one question…
Why have a rally in support of your constitution rights to freedom of speech assembly and right to bear arms, when you’re going to exercise those exact rights at your rally?
I mean you already have those rights, they will be on display, so why have the rally? Just a thought.
First, notice that we have to do this OUTSIDE DC; the 2A is not in force inside DC, so obviously there’s a problem there. Also, the rally will verify to what extent we can actually exercise those rights. I mean, you can carry a gun lots of places according to the law on paper, but still get harassed and detained nonetheless, as has happened in VA and in my home state of GA.
There are lots of other reasons, but a picture speaks a thousand words. Imagine the imagery of this. Imagine hundreds or even thousands of armed citizens along the Potomac. Imagine the YouTube videos or even TV coverage of individuals speaking their mind while carrying pistols and rifles with the Capitol and Washinton Monument in the background. You can’t tell me that won’t bring some serious attention to the fact that there are some people who are really, really fed up with the fact that the US Constitution is not being followed.
See also “What are we fighting for” part 1 and 2, and “target audience/ success criteria” posts on the home page.
One might wonder, KGE, why you are using an anonymous gmail account to post with and not your taxpayer funded VoA account? You have no problem utilizing a .gov network to post from, apparently. I do not think this is job related material, either.
I would love to hear the explanation on why my tax $$ are being used in this manner.

[…] Mission Statement/ FAQ’s […]
Fantastic! I’ve been waiting for this!
I don’t get it–you want to restore your constitutional rights you say, but you’re exercising them! You are gathering, publishing diatribes against the government officials without fear of retribution,, constitutionally protected rights. You also rail against any use of the courts, which are established by the constitution. Do you not value that element? The fact is, your elected officials are representing the values of the constituents that voted them in. If you don’t like that, gather enough votes for the next election to elect people that do represent your values. That’s also in the constitution. If the constitution’s provision that Congress can pass laws affecting welfare doesn’t cover health care, perhaps it doesn’t cover unemployment or social security either. Are you willing to give those up? Those can be considered a form of socialism. I think you sound silly.
Things that YOU don’t get :
1. We want the Constitution OBEYED, and are exercising our first and second amendment rights to show that we mean business. Those two amendments were put in place for a reason. I suggest you do a little homework since you don’t appear to know why.
2. Are you familiar with the 4 boxes line of thought? A.soapbox, B.ballot box, C.jury box, and lastly, D. cartridge box.
A. The people as a whole railed against this unconstitutional “healthcare” bill and were ignored. Box A. failed.
B. The normally overwhelmingly liberal socialist state of Mass. elected Scott Brown, as well as a bevy of other states electing conservatives in an attempt to stop the slide into the abyss that we are now facing. It didn’t work. Bribes and strong arm tactics negated a reasonable discussion and legal bill to be brought up. Box B. failed.
C. Multiple states have motions challenging the putrid stink that is a healthcare bill born of corruption and which has a price tag that we will never be able to pay. Hopefully it is stricken down sooner rather than later.
D. Lastly, those folks brave enough to attend this rally are quite willing to to resort to box D if all else fails, I am quite sure. We will not be subjugated and robbed by an overbearing and immoral government. You cannot take from the “haves” and give it to the “have-nots” at your whim without consequences. Keep that in mind.
3.Lastly, but definitely not least: Why are you hiding behind an aol email address? Declare yourself if you are so bold as to step into a room full of patriots without thinking of the consequences. Very cowardly, in my opinion. What I know about where you connected to here from:

“The fact is, your elected officials are representing the values of the constituents that voted them in.”
This is irrelevant if they are voting for unconstitutional laws.
“If the constitution’s provision that Congress can pass laws affecting welfare doesn’t cover health care, perhaps it doesn’t cover unemployment or social security either.”
Bingo! See below.
In 1787, the word “Regulate” meant to make regular or in today speak, facilitate, normalize, aid, assist or harmonize. For the absolute definition, see Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language of 1755, the dictionary of record used by the congress of 1787.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Moonbats will be moonbats.
Patriots,
It is a pleasure and honor to enter this room full of patriots who will stand for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, by joyful exercise of the first two of those rights. My fear is that, as some parts of the Constitution are hotly under debate, and indeed an entire branch of government was created by the Founders to interpret the Constitution, the message may get lost in the fog of the media battlefield.
I fully agree that Obamacare is an abomination, but I hesitate to allow the media to portray us as hotheads who go for their guns as soon as they do not get their way in the chambers of Congress. Let us be frank. The media will be clever and pull out all the stops at efforts to deceive our countrymen as to our motives and purpose, and attempt to reduce it to a caricature for ridicule.
I fear the media will say — “They are for restoring the Constitution, but what does that mean? Since they can’t provide specifics, maybe they don’t know what they are talking about. Sure, Free Speech, and Second Amendment, but then what?”
To not attempt to answer this question would be a squandered opportunity. In my view, many aspects of the Constitution need to be restored, but none as important as the bedrock, the Bill of Rights. For your deliberation and debate I put forth what I would call the initial demands which tells the government what it can do right away, in the next session of Congress, to show us that they have heard us. Let us come away with something tangible for the course we are taking, which all of us know carries risk.
We demand:
1) That the Executive Branch renounce its blatantly unlawful claim of authority to murder, extrajudicial and without his or her Sixth Amendment, any American citizen, stated by Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair to the US Congress when he said: “We take direct actions against terrorists in the intelligence community… If we think that direct action will involve killing an American, we get specific permission to do that.” The Executive Branch must understand that to all true Patriots these are fighting words. It is not we who began this fight.
http://www.dailypaul.com/node/124284
2) Restoration of the Second Amendment
3) Repeal of the Military Commissions Act, which allows the government to seize and detain American citizens without charge or trial indefinitely, a violation of the Sixth Amendment

There are many other aspects of the Constitution to be restored, but on April 19, we demand the government as a sign of good faith take steps to restore the bedrock of our rights, the Bill of Rights. Without these rights there are no means by which to defend any other rights by peaceful means, as the Founders so astutely recognized. These are non-negotiable. I pray and hope that the day will go well. We are there peaceably, exercising our rights, in a celebration of what it is to be Americans. But if the day does not, let us leave a document for the future to define us, rather than let the enemies of liberty to do so. A document as clear and ringing as those the Founders bequeathed to us. Thus we will secure the rights we wish for our children and grandchildren.

Hey- I’m a Ft. Hunt local and just found out about your worthy rally. I will be there, and have sent it out to my precinct. It’s also being mentioned on the hourly news on 630 WMAL, which is the local Limbaugh/Levin station. Your word is getting out.
And the weather should be 65 and sunny.
Can’t wait.
I’m also a Fort Hunt local. Our local paper is mildly freaking out, but I’ve run into some of you here and there at rallies and have been reading your blogs, so I’m not worried or upset, I’m glad you’re doing this. No gun, but I plan to be there to stand in support. I don’t have a video camera either, but will be offering at the park to keep one of yours rolling while you attend to other responsibilities.
Watch out for the speed limits on the parkway – stay within a few mph of the posted limit – they do pull people over often. Cruise control is your friend. 25mph once you get off the parkway at Ft. Hunt. You can also come in on Vernon View Drive and turn right at Fort Hunt Road to get to the park.
Will be driving up from NC with 2 people, will get room Sunday night and be their bright and early Monday morning
It’s a shame this is on a Monday during work times. Can’t get off otherwise I’d be there.

Is this an organization you join, and if so how can I join?
Start an RTC in your hometown. Look at where existing Tea Party and 9-12 groups are holding rallies, network with them, research the local gun laws, and get out there with your guns and Restore the Constitution sign. And bring friends.
